A TANGLED SKEIN

A skein of thread was being wound Into a ball for knitting, And save a few time-spending knots The thread went onward Sitting. And onward it would quick have goneAnd soon been finished winding But for a friend with good intent Inclined to short-cut finding, . Who thought she saw with clearer sight A way out of the trouble ; Bat only worse mixed up the threads, And made the tangle double ; So that great care and time were spent, The winder's patience trying, In smoothing out entanglement, A finish almost defying. The skein of thread with knottiogs fine Is like the plan of Life t The winder is the worker, With each phase of calm and strife. The one who helps to double The perplexity and cares . Is the tactless friend so gen'rous, Whose efforts our work impairs. M. A. J. Wall. Lake View 1 , Waihola, June 30.
