SHAG VALLEY.
June »7.— The weather during the past week has besu very wet, but it has every appearance of haying taken up again. The rain will do no harm, as it was badly wanted to soften the ground for ploughing.* Previous to the rain we had several nigh is' sharp frost. . So far as I can learn the potatoes are all pitted, and the turnips are being taken off for the cattle. Both of these crops are very fair. ■ • Concert.— The annual school concert was held in the Inch Valley School last night, when there was a large turn-out of people from Palmeraton, Dunback, and Green Valley as well as from the Inch Valley. Mr Isbister occupied the chair. The performers were Misses Baggott (Dunback), D. Rofs and Robertson (Palmeraton), Messrs -Battersby and ■ Philip (Dunback), Mr Pollock (Green Valley), and Mr Pdarson (Palmerston), who all contributed' Bongs very creditably. Miss K. OlNeill supplied the accompaniments in an able manner. With careful training Misr Baggott will- yet bs one of our bsst singara. Mies Bella M'Adie played a pianoforte solo in an accomplished fet-yle, reflecting credit ou her teacher, Professor fLutton; The concert was followed l>y a' farce, in which" Mr E. Ciark (Palmerston) was the principal actor, and it created' roars of laughter. A dance followed, at which Mr W. Glover (Dunback) officiated as M.OVin his usual happy style. Tea was handed • round during the evening, -the. refreshments being supplied by Mr Pearson (Palmoraton). The music for the dance was supplied by Messrs Philip (violin) and Iriglis (accordeon), of Dunback, and was all that could be wished for. After all expenses are paid there will >be somewhere about £3 IBs to tho credit of the committee, The w hole affair was, a decided. OUCMSfc
