Wi'liams). Kiatoa and Conscript were first away, and the latter led over the fir*t obstacle, closely followed by Levanter. Foreila was in front and went up the hill. But little alteration was noticeable as they raced down to the flat. All successfully negotiated the double except Donald M'Kinnon, who repeatedly refused, though he was eventually got over. Conscript closed on the leader, and Levanter was still handy, and raced up the hill, but Forella gained again on coming down to the flat, and was three lengths in front. The flat was reached with Levanter and Couscript racing together, and Kaitoa and L6rd Vivian close up. Conscript was in front at the back, and showed the way up the hill, where Levanter closed up, with Carbuncle third and Mutiny fourth, Forella and Liberator next in Older. At the second post and rails Levanter was on termß with Conscript, with ' Mutiny and Liberator a length away together. Coming down the hill Levanter drew away from Conscript and Liberator filled up the gap, and a splendid race on the flat between the old veteran and Levanter over the last lurlong resulted in a win for the latter by less than a head amidst tremendous excitement. Mutiny was five lengths " away third ; then came Conscript, Carbuncle, and Tiritea in the order named. Barnardo did not finish. Time, Bmin 57s«c. Dividends : Inside, £13 ; outside, £17 2s.
