TAIERI MOUTH
June B.— After a long ipell of really beautiful weather, for this time of the year, we are experi. encing.aonie rather stormy weather just now Of course, we must expect winter weather in season, although it is to be hoped we "hall not have such a rough winter as we had las /ear. Agricultural —The farmers have had very good harvest returns round about this district. A good many of them are sending their oats into" the market now, aa the prices are very good at present, and no one can tell when they may drop. Ploughing is getting under way again, although
for lea ground it is quite dry enough yet, as we have had very little rain fora long time now. Departures.— We are losing two of our bush settlers shortly, one having drawn a section in the Ardgowsm estate, aud the other taken up a milk run nt Henley, where that scheme of the Henley Company seemsi to be woiking advant»geou»ly for both parties, as a man with little or no capital cen get started by the compioy with 50 or 100 cows, or as many as he is capable of inanaziug, and with a sufficient area- of land to 1 feed them, the company in return getting half of the returns of-the milk. Things are moving along very quietly here just now, this being a quiet time of the year down this way. Holiday Visitors.— We had our own share of visitors this season, too. In fact, I never saw so many people staying about the Mouth before at the holiday time. This place seems to be getting quite a favourite holiday resort now, being within e»sy distance of town, with a good road, from Dunedin round the coast. The worst in therriver. If we only had a bridge I am sure it v juld make a great difference to this pl.ice as a holiday res .rt. We have been pestered for about ten'year* with a most unworkable ap >logy for a punt. lam sure the man who drew the plans for Noah's Ark knew much more about it than the man who engineered the Taieri Mouth's punt. But I believe tenders are about to be called for the erection of a new one built on two boats running on an overhead wire, which I am sure will ba a great boon to this place if it works as well as tha county engineer expects.
