' June 8. —The weather, which has been unusually fine for this time of year, changed to a steady rain all Saturday night. Many families were in want of water— rather an unusual occurrence in winter —so that the change was an acceptable one. School.— The painters have just been giving the school a thorough painting. The committee took this opportunity or giving the children their midwinter holidays, muoh to the disgust of the youngsters, who still think they should have their mid-winter leave. The school reassembled to day. Leave. — Dr King has obtained leave for a month or two.'and is, I believe, paying a visit to- New South Wales, accompanied by Mrs King. Dr Beattie is in charge, and Dr Fox, of Christchurcht is assistant medical officer. Dances — The winter weekly dances at the asylum have commenced again, and are likely to be well patronised as usual.
