LIVINGSTONE.

June I.— A most successful and enjoyable social was held in the Public Hall, Livingstone, oh Friday evening, to bid our late teacher, Mr L. H. Hurray, godspeed and farewell on his leaving Livingstone to fill a new appointment in the Oamaru South District School. The ladies of Idvißgatone, learning some weeks since of Mr Murray's successful application, took steps to raise funds with which to present him with some token of the general esteem felt for him in the district. This was most heartily responded to. A most enjoyable concert was held, consisting of well-chosen fend well-rendered musical iterni, both vocal and instrumental, recitations, and -readings. During the interval the Chairman, Mr Neale, precented the guest of the evening with a handsome and valuable albert, manufactured in Oamaru from gold dug at Livingstone, and a medal >uitably •ngraved. After tho presentation, the Rev. Mr

Hay delivered a short address suitable to the occasion, in which he said rarely had such a numerous and appreciative gatheung mot to do honour to a teacher after a little over two years' service, and it did more to show the est em in which Mr Mvi ray was held than anything he could say. He left none but friends behind, and thk was due not only to the successful duchsi>ge of his duties, but also to his kindly disposition, his invariable courtesy, and his reudiness to assist at all times in any movement for tho benefit or enjoyment of the residents ; consequently there wore nono but regretted bin removal, though the feeling of regret ■was exceeded by tteir gratification at his promotion, and everyone present wished him success and prosperity in hia new epbere. At the close of the concert ample evidence was afforded of the liberality and skill in the culinary art of the ladits who bad taken the matter in hand.
