MILLEND.

May 29. — As we do not see this place very often reported in your paper and a good many people are unaware of the resources of this district,- I think it is the duty of someone to enlighten the rest of the world as to our existence. As* we aie quite near to Lovell's Flat (six miles), Stirling (10 miles), and Balclutha (10 mileß), Hillend ousht to be oftener heaid of. The land here is of firstclaw quality, in proof of which I may mention 'that there was harvested £900 worth of seed off 200 acres of grass. The cereal threshing is just through, and the yield of oats and wheat is known, and it will be hard to beat— viz., 48 bushels of wheat and up to 60 of oats to the acre in spite of all the wiud. The show of turnips, also, is not to be excelled. I can strongly advise anyone wanting a first-class farm to give this place a look up, as they can have land at a most reasonablo rate, and all-ready for the plough. Amusements.— We have just passed through a period of dissipation — first with a lecture on Sir Walter Scott, by the Rev. R. Dickie, which was much appreciated; next a political address by oui m mber, Mr James Allen, M.H.R.. who received a v.ite of confidence and promised to behave better in future; and last, but not least, on Friday eveniug, May 22, the event of the tajear took place— viz., our soiree and concert in aid school funds. Our school committee findthemselves short of funds appealed to tha for hep and met with a most generous from their friends, our school being filled with the youth, beauty, wealth, of the place. As the comestibles weie singing better, and tbe good humour of Al, it w.s bound to be what it was, success and the best entertainment, withthat was ever held in this district.
