MOONLIGHT.

May 4.— The threshing is now a thing of the past, and the farmer* are satisfied with the yield. The potatoes are being lifted, and they also appear to be a good crop. Turuips that looked bid some time ago for the want of rain have made a start again, and should the frost not coins too severe they alao will be a fair crop. Educational.— Patriotism does not seem to run high here, for only four householders, three of whom were single men, turned up on the evening of the 27th ult , when seven were required to form a school committee. L»st year ia the only one since the school was built that the committee was elected on the day appointed by the Education Board. "The parents with the largest families and the largest number attending school are the most backward in taking part in the election of a school commit 1 cc, and also in attending committee meetings. Self, self, nothing but self. What a pity tho State does not nurse their children for them as well as educate them 1 The married man who did put in an appearance on the 27th is a creditable exception to the rule, t»king a lively interest in the school. He is always to the front, attending meetings, planting trees, <fcc.,.for the benefit of the school and children, thus setting an example that might be followed with advantage by others. Political —Oar representative, Mr Carncross, has started on a tour of the Taieri electorate, and is billed to appear here on the 19th inst , and I hope the electors of Moonlight will turn out in force to hear him give an account of his stewardship, and aek him questions with a view to being enlightened on the important topics of the day. I understand the female electors intend to muster in considerable numbers and demand a reply to the question why Mr Carncroßs objected to them getting the franchise, and also to pick up some political education to enable them to use the psncil at next election.
