May 6.— The death of Mr James Little cast quite a gloom over this district. Mr Little has been a resident in Outra.ni for the pact 14 years. Formerly he carried' on a butchering business in ralmeraton under the style of Little Bros Deceased, along with his brother William, came to New Zealand in the ship Wave Queen 36 years ago. The brothers resolved to try their luck in gold-digging, and started for Gabriels. There they were among the fortunate ones, aud in a few yeara they got enough gold to start them in business, aud accordiugly they bought out Mr F. Stone, of Palnieftton. For many years prosperity shone upon them. Deceased had no desire for public life, although many times pressed to go into the towq.couocil. The firm at that time did a law business dealing with horses, cattle, and Bheep. They leased the Bushy Park estate at an annual rental of £1800, and this proved the turning point of the firm. Everything setmed to take a turn for the worse, until ultimately the firm was broken up, and the business has since been carried on by Mr William Little. Deceased was married in Palmerston to Miss Grace Murray, a sister of Mrs Wright, of Woodlands. He leaves a •widow and a family 0/ eight, four sons aud four daughters, but in addition to thig th» eldest daughter and eldest ' son died a little time back within a short time of each other, and deceased received a severe shock at the loss. He was only confined to Bed a week. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family both here and at Palmarston. ' j (Continued on Page 31.)
