WAIWERA.
May 12.- Since I last wrote we faave had everj conceivable change in tbe weather, including hurricanes and deluges of rain. At present it v beautifully fine, whioh is a rare treat thin season. Farming. -Ploughiug is the general order. A good deal of chaff is also being cut for market. Thing-* generally are moving on in a quiet way. Amusements— A«j the days .shorten [ suppoie we sh*tl be h&vijag some entertainments of som* sort to p*ss the long •voaings. In this respect we may with advantage take .a loison from our Clinton friends, who have again started their Mutual Imptovement Society. Perhaps som* of our young folks will take this hint and yet do something here. As it is, we get- a fair share of religious meetings, which in their place are good. Still, something else by way of mild recreation -and improvement seems to be needed. ScnooL Matters. — lite school committee election passed very quietly, resulting in the old memliers bsing og«m elected. Political —Our M.H.R., Mr Thomas Mackenzie, seems to have bad a lively tima of it at Clinton, but so far as I can gather his claims are not in the least weakened in that centre. There can be no doubt that he is not only a good mem-, bor for 'the Clutha, bat also; a hard worker and' interested in any movement for the benefit of tha whole of 'New Zealand, and I am <r ure he will be hard to defeat. Saccess to him, say X At the present ,d«y we cannot Afford' to spare such mea from Parliament. Winter Show.— On moving around among some of -my old friends and neighbours, I was -pleased to see already some elight preparation for some exhibits for this coming affair. Mr- Murray, Rosevale farm, intends, I understand, to send come oats, and probably the ladies will send some* -thing in the cake or bread line, which I ant' sura will be welcomed by tbe society. I hops more will yet be plucky enough to enter the lists, as I am confident Waiwera can show up well in many ways. I claim Clydevale, Clifton, and Mr Gibson's aa being in my district, and I am Mire with them we Waiwera people can hold our own wt.ll with any part of New Zealand. 1 have no doubt my big friends as well as many little ones will as usual be to the fore when the time comes. Improvements.— I notice several improvements are being made at Mr Murray's place in the shape of building*, Ac. Stosk are looking remarkably well on this property, especially tho fine lot of purebred pigs, for which Mr Murray is famous. Mw Murray has, I should imagine, a good deal to do with the success in many branches of th« industry. She is undoubtedly a farmer's wife pi the good old school, not sticking at trifles.
