POMAHAKA DOWNS.

May 11.— The weather has been very wet lately, aud the ground has been pretty well soaked, making the tussock fit for ploughing. The mill has finished, and from all h-ndn the>«ame story ol pooi* results is heard. The chaff cutter it now working i's w&y through the settlement, and soon w« shall be prepared for winter weather. The roadi -are getting cut np considerably, more especially a part of ,the .road loading from Mr Row 8 farm along the' side of Mr Mitchell's farm. Some metalling was contracted for by the council months ago. Tjut nothing was done during all the fine we*theiywhen the roads were good, and .now, wheu rainy weather has 'arrived, -the drays come with the metal and plough up the road, xnaking ib very bad carting for those who still have grain to send away. It v _is some tim* since the contract was let, and I think the engineor.should have soon that tbe work was done before grain carting commenced. I hear it reported that the Goverument intend to break up all th* vaoant sections, bo as to encourage ,settlem»nt. The idea of breaking np the tus*ook before the sections are taken up v a good one, because for a man to come and. settle on th-^ tufsock'iß no joke, as he has so long to wait for a return. Bunny.— The late wet weather haß been %gainst our »ttackson this pest, butdu'ingthe dry weather a boy with ferrets and dogs has 'been doing. good work. - - - -^ _ ;Marriages.— Mr Scarlett -got ymart ietl-tt .forfc .night ago, and is now comfortably settled on his" section, whilst Mr Davidsor}, our local bluet smith, brought home his bride last week.
