Wellington, May 11. At. a- mteting of the Brnnner Relief Fund Committee it was repotted* that the «urn of £3426 had been collected in Wellington and district. The following resolution was carried :—": — " Thafc id the opinion of this meeßing the funds collected should be first applied for the relief of sufferers from the Brunnerton d'stster, but if after such relief it is formd there ia any balance itr should' be apy>'i»<l f«» mining accidents generally " Christchuuch, May 5. At a meeting of the executive of the Brnunec relief fund to-day, Mr Q. G. Stead, hon. treasurer, reported that £¥170 was lying to rhe credit of the fund in the Union Bank. He understood that Lyttel^oo, Timaru, Akaroa. and Ashburton botweao them had colU-ated' nearly an xddifcional £1000. An over £600 bed been remit 1 ed direct to tho West Coatt without going through the committe*) it would ba seen that considerably over £6000 had been contributed by Canterbury. Tbe mayor and Mr 1 G. 6. Stead were appointed delegates to the conference convened by the Prt-mier in Wellington to decide as to the disposal of the fund. A resolution wan carried that it is desirable that the whole funds should be applied to the relief of those who had suffered through the di-asfcer. A B runner ton telegram states that the Central Belief Committee have appointed Mr O' Regan, H.H.R , to represent it at the Wellington conference, the major being unable to go If Mr O'Regan caunot attend Mr Tbooiea Blind will be the delt-g»te. It was unanimously resolved, that if independent t rusfcees were appointed they should be only allowed to invent the money in Government securities. A telegram received by the Mayor of Wellington'frcni the Mayor of Invercargill a> king if orrai>g«uu-nt9 had been made to d«-fr*v the expen-tes of drlpgattt to the coming conference was referred to the Premier. The latter minuted it, " I do nob think the expenses should bs defrayed out of the Brunccr mine disa*rer fund." An Auckland telegrtm states that at a meeting of the committee of the Brunner relief fund the Mayor stated that the amount was £1334 6* 6ri. Be the Premier's circular to send o delegate to the metropolitan conference at Welltnglion on tha 14th insb., it was decided to send the following telegram- to the Majors of Wellington and Dunedin, with whoee views they had previously coincided :— " Is it your intention to fall in with the suggestion of the Premier re a conference, to be held in Wellington en the 14th iusti., or to adhere to the arrangement previously agreed on that ths matter ba <3e»lt wifcb at the Municipal Conference to be held in July ? In the meantime we have declined until we have heard from your committee." Tho opinion of the meetiug was in favour of the relegation of the question to the Municipal Conference in July,, as Parliament would then be in session and better means aviilxble for having tbe. fuud satisfactorily invested. A Nelson telegram abates that at a meeting of the Brunner Belief Finauce Committee it was raaolved to suggest to the Government that a conference be held jusiv after the opening of Parliament, when delegates to the Municipal Conference are in Wellington. Messrs Tt-ask and Graham were appointed delegate*, and fo* tfaein guidance » resolution wa& carried — v> That the wishes of this committee are that after liberal provision has been made for the sufferers by the Brunner disaster, any balance be held in trust for granting relief to sufferers from mining fatalities." An Auckland telegram states that ab a meeting of the Brunner Rslief Fund Committee the Mayor, (who presided) explained that the meeting was wJhd together to consider the replies received from Wellington aad Dunedin relative to the forthcoming conference called by the Premier. The queation was whether the Auckland committee should fall in with the views of the Premier or adhere to previous arrangement with the Duuedin committee of leaving the matter in the bands of the Municipal Conference, which- me«ts in July next. After discussion, it was resolved, to adjourn the meeting until fcha Dunedin committee forwarded a reply as to leaving the matter in the hands of the Municipal Conference.
