Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Lykll, April 24.
Alpine.— The mine manager reports: — "The No. 1 level east of the main shaft has been extended a further distance of 13ft ; total distance, 145 ft. . The country is very hard and tedious for ariving. The uprise from the back of No. 4 level has been extended a further distance of 20ft. ; The total distance risen is 87ft. Ibe reef at the south end of the rise is the full width with no hanging wall viiable. There is no change worthy of note in the quality of stone. I expoct to break through to the winze from No. 1 level •bout the latter part of the coming week." Lyell Creek Company.— The mioe manager reports :— "The winze has been sunk a distance of 6ft for five days, making the total depth 82ft. * According to instructions from the office I started to put a crosscut in yesterday to the hanging wall, •nd will be able to report fully' on 'it next week."
