POULTRY NOTES.
THE "MODERN" LANGSHAN. Mr Harrison Weir, ta« well-known JSnffisJ naturalist, and for many yews a member of tht Langshan Club, has just resigned h;g csoneo* tion with that body. He give* his reasons fot doing so in a communication which be ha* addressed to the press, and in the oouna oE wfaioh h« says :— " I leave the club for th« foi* lowing reMon : The Langshan proper kit not long thighs and long legs. 16 h»0 not a long baolt, it has not a small tail, and most oerfcaiDly it is not <i tight* "feathered bird. A tight-feathered bircl conies from hot climates— not cold, like the Zj&ngfthan. Tha biggor you get the legf of « H^rl the sm&l^ the bre»>i, What
is 'wanted is a breast to be 'too large sooner than the legs.' The injury that the club has done to the breed and the keeping of the breed will never be known ; but that it is very great I can testify from seeing, hearing, and correspondence ; so please to take my name off the list of members." Mr Weir has objected to the LMJgsban Clab being allowed to appoint judges wedded to the long-legged storky-bred type, as he considers it to be unjust to other exhibitors of the true breed as imported, and though the latter are of far better make and pace quality, ths former birds win, whilst tha others too often are paesed unnoticed.
