WELLINGTON NOTES.
Bt Cams.
April 23.The New Zealand Kennel Club baa evidently benefited by change ot air, the br*ciag brecses ot Wellington having supplied new life and energy aad restored to usefulness this lately slußobsring body. At the Uat meeting, which was held on Thursday, the 16th inst., a number »f oircuUrj referrnig to different subjects were di»cua**d, aud it was decided to forward copies to all affiliated clubs in crdur to obtain the general opiuion of tb#ir desirability or otherwise, I Referring to these circular?, the first has reference to fakieg and tampering with exhibits, aad it is recoia»eod«d that judges be insfetucttd to examiafl all dogs most carefully, and ftlio that oommittecs be on the alei'fc, and also that all offenders bo most severely dealt with. I Auirther has for its objeob the adoption of a ' universal entry and registration form to ba u«d by all the amlinted olabs, aud so save the poor jaded secretaries a lot of rewriting, &c.
Circulars Nos 7 a».d 9 propose that (he judge or judgrs Bhall be present one day duriug the currency of the show in addition t j the jad|(ing day ; also thit a full report b* obtained fram the judges of the ch»6T,ct} thej »dju licnted upon, a ot>py 0! which i* to be sent to the N.Z.K.0., and slno to each affiliated club.
Ciicular No. 10 pruvides for a full supply of schedules, ofttftlogues, &c. batween all the affiliated clubs. •»
The above are all very valuable sngge«Hons, aDd I sincerely hope they will be adopted by all the clubs.
CircuUr 12 proposes that all the affiliated clubs join together and obt«.iu a co«ipU>tß <et of pjvtent benohing for, say, 500 dog*, this to bs held by the N.Z K.C. in trusc and Last to each club for use at its shows. -
There is no doubt the shows would be much more attractive if the patent wire bombing were used, m the exhibits would k>*k twice as well. The first cost would be heavy, bob us iisv of the great *dv«at*ge I would »ugge*t a special subscription amongst fanciers for this particular object.
Circular 14 proposes to establhh an infcerprovincial ohallenge trophy of the vmlne of befcwean £10 and £20, to be competed for annually throughout New Zealand, and ta be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the greab-et number of pout* in tho year with dog* (JwnajUe his own property) at the different affiliated «iu»ws 'in Now Zaa« land. Thii, it » thought, would tend to reduce the provincial element which now vxieti, and make local shows of a more representative character.
Irish terriers will soon rival oallies to tho E'tipire City, as they are becoming qaite tho rage amongst the young fanciers, and seem to have quite knocked oat the fox terrkrs amongst or*-dog men. Messrs M^x-heeise, Hunter, W. R. Morris, and T. P. Covemy have splendid litters of puppies that will, if all goes well with them, help to swell the classes at the next ihow. '
The schedule of the Marlborongh P. and D. Asg(ci«tion is to band. The show m fixed for July 1 and 2, with the dogs on ttte second day only. The classification is noi qaita so good as it might be, bat still for a sbjall district it is not bad, comprising as it does 27 dasies— vis., greyhounds, pointers, setters, spa&mhr, retrievers, collies, fox terriers, bull dogs, Irish, black and tan, and toy terriers, and a selling class. Conspicuous by their absence are eUesea for the larg« breeds, soch as mavtiffs, Bb. Bernards, Newfoundland*, &c. Mr Clifford, of Wellington, judges, and will, I think, give every satisfaction. As Blenheim is within easy distance of Wellington, I expect to see a good contingent go over. The Kaikoura has jugt arrived from Hone, and brought a lot of pigeons of various kinds for Mr Mftcquarrie, of Nelson, and a pair of carriers for Mr J. R. Hayne, of Dunedin,
