The fruit is of enormous size, and, when ripe, of a dark, dusky red colour; it is of fine quality, and cannot be surpassed for preserving. The plant is of robust growth, and is marvellously prolific. It possesses a peculiar advantage over other kinds by coming into leaf some time before it flowers, consequently the foliage protects the bloom from destructive spring frosts.
