The first meeting of the newly-elecred Otakia , Drainage Board was held on the 2<HL inst. all the men her* beice presnut. Mt John H. Wilson (of Scott and Wilson) was v animoimly appointed chairman, and Mr John Grant cleric and treasurer. It w agreed to call for tenders from persons competent to work the -angina and wheel when required. It was al»o agreed to Uke the necessary Bt«i>s to strike a general rate of Jd in the pound. Th- clerk was instructed to make application to the T»ieri County Council for permuston to hold the mr«tingg in the county hut at Duck bridge. : The nex meeting wax fixed for May 4. The meinWs of the Outratu/Town Board, who are now gaaetted trustees for the maintenance of the West Taieri Cem-tery, paid a visit of inspection to the cemetery on Saturday, and resolved to call for tenders for clea-'ing some 40 chains of walks, and after being cleaned they will probably get a fresh dreisiug of gravel, or some other material. * Tha West Taieri River Board held their general > monthly mooting on Monday; present— Messrs Snow (chairman), Andrews, Allan, Chishnlm, and Hastio The Chairman reported having had "oraa rabbit burrows, out of which 10 rabbits were taken, dug out of 'he embankment and filled up j again. It was resolved to do the necessary repairs in filling up cattle tracks, *c., Messrs Allan and Hustle having alwuys supplied horsei and drays free of charge for d-ung repairs io the lections under their inspection, the cleric, having j been instructed to wait on Mr Patrick and ask if he would g^ve a horse and dray to do the repairs < through hi* ground — bamely. the Piano Paddock, —reported having seen Mr Patrick, who was quite willing' to give a hor*e and dray to do the nec&seary rep»ir».' The special rate f«r paying instalment of principal and interest on loans was fixed at Id in the pound for year ending 3lst March 1697.'
