ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.

Wellington, April 18. At a meeting of the Advances to Settlers Board yesterday, presided over by bhe Hon. W. C. Walker, 84 loans were granted, amounting to £21,670. It has been ascertained that of loana authorised by the board representing £772,422, applicants have declined £181,820. Of the loans accepted from the Advances to Settlers Office, 10 have been paid off amounting to £2175.

■ The Lendon County Council has voted £120,000 for technical education forthe jear. The hospital returns for the past week are :— Remaining from previous week, 107 ; admitted during the week, 18 ; discharged, 13 ; death (Christopher Clark) 1 ; — total remaining in the institution, 111.
