"IN A TIGHT PLACE."
An instructive and highly interesting insight into the methods utilised by the Government for influencing member! infl-oted with inconveniently sensitive consciences as regards their votes was afforded by Mr OtahMn to-night. Irritated by some interject ions of the Treasurer, and the taunt* of several members as to his voting with the Government when the Island fruit duties were first before the House and subsequently reversing this vote, Mr Graham declared th»t tbe Premier had appealed to him for his support, saying the Government was "in a tight place," and assured him the duty would eventually be struck out. Under this pretsaie Mr Graham voted for the frint duties be did not beliove in, and many another did the same.
