Brdnnerton, September 17. The Grey Valley Coal Company have given notice of dismissal to 113 men and boys. They intend to work one shift only after the 28th. The mayor has wired to the Premier asking if any of the me a can be put on to the Jackson's section of the Midland railway. Waimate, Septsmber 17. Mr J. F. Mercier, of Wellington, who has acted as organising agent in the North Island during the past two seasons for the New Zealand Workers' Union, has been reappointed for tbe ensuing season, the organising work to be done on commission. The Greymouth Harbour Board's worka will be stopped in a few days, and some 70 men will be thrown out of employment. In response to a communication direct from the Oamaru unemployed to the effect tbafc then were still 30 urgent cases in town, Mr Duncan telegraphs that he is trying to get the 30 men. sent to the Otago Central, and if not cent there they will probably be sent to the P«s« road.— Mail.
The health of Mr RawsoD, S.M. and warden for the Dans tan district, continues bo unsatia* faotory that he is likely to retire on a pension of £244 per annum on the Ist December.
