A FATAL FIRE,

London, Boptember 16. The steamer lona, from Leith to London, caught fire and burned for two hours. Thf passengers were asleep at the time, and when, rouaed a panic ensued. Many were injured in the rush for the boats. Seven ladies perished, including the stewardess, who waf trying to rescue other*. The fire began in tbe ladies' cabin. Forty-eight men were resoued. Jonas, the steward, states that the reason . the unfortunate women were burned was that egrees from the cabin was closed, and they were unable to force their way through the flames.
