September 23.— The weather, which was very warm and dry up to Friday last, has nowchanjea. and same showers of rain have fallen. This will prove very acceptable to thoee preparing the ground for crops. Lbctuue.— Kefiidents here had an intellectual treat on the 9th inst., when the Rev. Mr Taylor lectured on " Mackay, the Uganda Missionary." Mr Taylor \b an or»tor of no mean order, anl he was listened to with wrapt attention during his lecture, at the close of which the chairman (Mr Gr.ffon) called on Mr Martyn to propose a vote of thanks to the lecturer. This was carried by acclamation, and a collection was 9fterwards taken up for the Methodist Home Mission Fund. Mr Ta> lor has promised to deliver another lecturo in the near future, when he ought to have a much larger audience. Social. — 1 understand arrangements are being made for a soiree and— l was nearly writing "dance," which would never do— concert to be held in the Kaik Hall on November 1. School Examination.— lnspector Taylor examined the Otakou School on the 17th, and the result was one of the best reports ever gained by this school.
