Geraldine, September 2l. —The weather is still very dry hero, no change having taken place since I lfttt Wrote. A few hour<s' rain would now do an immense amount of good amongst the eaily ciops and the feed The weather, however, is exceptionally fine for the lambing season, and from all accounts there should be a good percentage of lambs this year. Today the sky is cloudy, and this morning there was every sign of rain, but only a few drops fell, much to the disappointment of the farmer, who has fears of another dry season this year, which would bo disastrous to those who are depending on feed for cattle and sheep. Snows, Ac— The annual horse parades will be claiming attention iv a few days. Beth the Timaru and Geraldine ones will be held before the end of this mouth. Anglino.— Fishermen are anxiously lookiDg forward to the opening of the season at the beginuing of next month (October), when, after a good sptwning season, some capital "takes" aro expected. South Cantarbury is a perfect happy hunting ground for the follower of Isaac Walton with so many rivers running within easy distance of each other. The Rangitata, Orari, Waihi, Teuiuka, Opihi, and Haehaetemoana are all good fishing streams, and this year appear to be alive with fish. The society through Mr A. B. Hawkins— a devotee of the art — disposed of more licen"O3 last year at Geraldine than during any previous season.
