September B.— The Local Liter *ry and Mus'cal Bcciety held Its fortnightly function on Friday laat, vrhen there was a fair attendance. Mr Peat-ie presided. The last debate fur the session yras arranged for six weaks afterwards. A few detail? were settled concerning olher events and two new member* weie elected. From J) till 10.30 members vied with each other in making the evening pleanant with music— for the evening was to be a innrcul one. From piano, violin, eutoharp, baepipes, and dulcet the members and friends drew forth sweet sounds, while otters contributed tongs and roundelays Truly a delightful eveniDg concert was the result. The meeting then resolved itself into a dancing one, which, in its tuu>, dissolved at the mystic hour when Cinderella lost her blipper. A ladies' evening cornea next, and we hear tell of tine doings that arc to be to show their capabilities to please.
