DESIGNS FOR NEW STAMPS.

The Board of Examiners report on the designs for new stamps that, no complete Bet being uniformly of the greatest merit, they decided to divide the first and second prises among the designors of tho 22 best drawings, in addition to which a third series was selected for honourable mention. The awards are as follow (third representing honourable mention) : W. R. Bock, Wellington, three firsts, two seconds, and two thirds ; 12. T. Luke, Melbourne, two firets and three seconds ; J. Ganfe, Wellington, two Qc6ts, one second, and fouc thirds ; H. W. Youug, Auckland, two firsts and one second ; B. H. Howard, Melbourne, three seconds ; A. W. Jones, Chrißtchuroh, one firab and two thirds ;■ A. E. CouHin?, Wellington, one first and one third ; W. Sear*, Wellington, one second and one third; R. R. M'Gregor, Wellington, one third.

A very serious accident happened to the mail coach going into Paei'oa, Auokland, on Saturday. Going down a steep hill near Owharoa the brake gave way, and the coach, with its full load ofi passengers, capsized. The passengers were all thrown out, and the coach was turned completely over and was carried to the bottom of the hill by the terrified horses. It was completely wrecked. AH the passengers wers more or leaß hutt. The driver (J. O'Donnell) had ma ankle dislocated, J. Httton his arm put out, and Mr Gray (of Tauranga) wss badly knocked about. WOLFE'S SCHNAPPS
