Tho pigeon race from Christchurch wan flown on Saturday ag&iDßt a strong wind. Owing to a largo number of the competitors objeohing to have their birds liberated separately, tbo reoe was not the success that was anticipated, the birds keeping in a flock until reaching Dunedin. Mr J. Smith's White Wiugs gained first place, with a velocity of lG9lyds 2fb ptr miuuU -, Mt G. Fraser's Francot, seuond, velocity 1081yda per minute •, and Mr S. Howrth's Maori, third, velocity 1077 yds 2fft per minute. Mr SmitU receives tbe special prize of a case of cordials, presented by Messrs Thomson and Co. The pigeou race from Invc-rc*.rgill on tho 3156 ulfc. was flown in splendid time, the first bird doing tbe distance in less than two hours and a quarter. Iti previous races the birds have beea liberated all together, but on this occasion the cub decided t? liberate them separately, thareby judging the merits of each separate bird. They were liberated at intervals ot 15 minutes by Mr Brebner, stationmaster at Invarcargill, who performed his tack most accurately. Mr W. R. Hayne'a Torpedo aacuced first place, with a velocity of 1416 yds 2ft lOin per minute : Mr Smith's Silverpeak was second, with a velooity of 1311 yds 2ft 7in ; and Mr S. Howrth'a Grenadier third, with a velocity of 1212ydfl 2in. Messrs Cowie and Co., Caveraham, presented a prize of tho value of a guinea to tho owner of the winning bird. On Saturday the race of the season is to be flown from Christ church to Dunedin.
