May 30.— Winter cc ms to bave set in very early this year, and consequently farmers have had io commence giving stock winter feed earlier thsn usual. A stock sale was held at Mataura yesterday, and I hear ihat there was an advance of about la a head in the price of sheep. Dairy Factory.— A meeting was held some time ago at the house of Sirs James Williamson for the purpose of finding out what support would be given to a dairy factory in the district. Ibcre appeared to be a great diversity of opinion upon the matter. I hear the district has been cany s«td for the purpose of selling shares, but I am afraid the cauva^s wa3 not a very successful one, and it apnears to me the project will never be realised Matauiu Papkr Mill.— This mill, which wa3 clo c ed down for some weeks, the production being greater than the demand, resumed work on Monday la3t, the stock of paper on hand being exhausted.
