RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.
During the early hours Thursday morning wav rather foggy, but some fairly good work was douc. Impulse gs>.Uopeii once round at a strong paoe, broughb home by Watchword. Royal Hose and Three Star galloped the Cup distance, Royal Rose going very strongly all through, and pulling np fresh and well. Rangipuhi and Pegasus were exercised over a mile. Au Revoir, assisted alternately by Miss Madge and Barmby, was galloped at top over a mile and »-balf, which he covered in really good time. Clanrcnald only cantered. Leontine and Lottie galloped over a mile and a-half. Both went remarkably well, and Leontine has a good outside chance of winning the New Zealand Cup. Vogengang and Minerva travelled two miles and a-half at a useful rate and finished up as fast as Minerva could gallop. Be&rfonwoll, with neck sweaters, was galloped over a mile with Brifcomarfce and Muhaki, the firat-named defeating his opponents with the greatest ease ; and there is no doubt that Mercer's horse is uncommonly well'just afc present. On Saturday morning Magazine, Clanranald, and Vogengang started together, and 11. iriel almost on equal terms, all being out at tfee end of a ml)e and a-h&lf on the plough, tun in 2tEia 44sec. Magazine aud Vogengang carried over their cup weights. Lottie traversed a mile and a-quarter strongly, and Beadonwell, assisted by Coala and Britomarte, ran two miles at his best pace, taking 3min 43seo, which equalled the time done by Au Revoir earlier, who carried fully 211b more weight. It is generally conceded by the touts that Aa Revoir has done the best work of the week, and he and Saracen ace great f&vonrites at 7 to 1 each. During the early morning's work on Monday light rain fell, but noh sufficient to stop progress or spoil the tracks. Notbing special was done. Impulse, Three Star, Royal Rose, Rangipuhi, Scot Free, Mahaki, Leontine, aud Pegasus did the strongest work without making anythicg like fast time. BeadoaweU and Vogeng*r*g were sweated. Au Revoir, Lottie, and Clsnranald were meivly sent at half-pace. Nixie was exteuded over a mile. Blarney, Melinite, Georgie Sharp, Lakeshell, Tertdina, Colebeck, Barmby, and Loveshot each put in a useful working gallop. Some capital work was got through at Ricoarton on Tuesday. Impulse, accompanied by Lftkeshell over the last mile, ran a strong mile and three-quarters, finishing well. Woodlander did four furlongs pleasingly, and Colebeck galloped soundly over a mile. Royal Roie finished three lengths ahead of Three Star at the end of a once-round gallop. Nixie was playing up on the track and fell, bat afterwards galloped fast over six furlongs. Rangipuhi galloped a mile with Lord of Misrule to take him on. St. Clements did good three-quarber-pnoe work. Leontine finished in front of Pegasus in a slow-run mile and a-qusrter, and went on for another quarter-mile alone, going in good style. Molly Darling and Vanilla went smartly over a mile together. Au Revoir, alone, did a capital mile, which was later ou equalled by Vogengang, who had the assistance of Barmby, Lottie galloped afc even pace a milo and a-half, with Mahaki as a companion over the laeb mile, both going in nice style. Blarney and Melinite were sent a mile, the former, with White up, having the worst of the go Melinite had a light impost. Coala galloped two milea. Miss Madge wag faster than Abel Tasinan and Salvo from end to end of six furlongs. Bcot Free did strong work over about two miles and a-half. Beadonwell galloped fast over five furlongs, registering a good half-mile. Britomarte brought him home. The work done at Riccarton on Wednesday morning was interesting only from the fact of the number of new arrivals appearing on the track. Westmere, Purepo, Rosefeldt, and Skirmisher all look well. No strong work was done, however, and there is nothing new to report from the course. The Cup horses, with the exception of Prime Warden, Saracen. Hippomenea, Captive, Magazine, Dilemma, and Alaershot, were 1 out.
