October 8. — Most of the crops are now sown in this district. The area is about the same as last year, but the pro -pec t for the price of grain seems to be no more promising than it has been during the past year or two. Considering the inducements offered by the Kemphome-Prosser Drug Company for growing sunflower and linseed, it seems strange that some of our farmers do not give these two valuable products a trial. Pastoral. — The lambing will be at an end about the close of this week. Judgiug by present appearances this will be the best lambing we have had for several seasons. I regret to state that the grass is not showing much as yet, for although the days are warm the nights have been pretty cold, and often cevere frosts have nipped the grass, thus keeping it later than usual. Mining.— Tlio Island Block Company is working away steadily, but 1 have not heard any particulars lately. — The Golden Run dredge is, ai as usual, doing well. The general meeting for the election of directors is to be held on the 11th, and I think there will be no lack of candidates for the position. Water Prospects.— There is very little snow now on the rangss in the neighbourhood, and unless there is a great change in the weather, Ithiuk water for mining will be very short this summer.
