MR GLADSTONE.
Press Association— By Telegraph— Copyright. London, February 18. His medical advisers report that a cataracb has obliterated the sight of one of Mr Gladstone's eyes, and that a cataract is forming in the other. Mr Gladstone wi3hed to undergo an operation, bub the doctors refused to perform it.
The Maori paper at Hastings, Hawke's Bay, has ceased publication. Lewis Lyons Levy, who waa summoned to appear before the official assignee at Auckland to givn evidence in Tilberfc'* case, declined to accept ono Mbillio^' tendered him. and claimed reasonable expenses. Judge Conolly, when appealed to, issued a warrant for Levy's arrest. Levy was in gaol over Sunday and appeared ia the Supreme Court on Monday and gave evidence. A sensation was created in court by the witness fainting.
