February 10. With reference to the statement in a Canterbury paper that our local horse Kent has been sold to Jockey Cusdin by MrE. Halward (for the sum of £300), the latter denies the statement, and says he has not even been approached by Cusdin on the subject. The Johnsonville and Hutt County Trotting Club holds its next meeting on Easter Monday. Mr Tom Seymour, well known in the Ohau and Wellington district, died on Sunday. Mr Seymour had for years past been one of the most promineut memoers of the Otaki Racing Club, and was also one of the most fore' most men in the district, being liked and re" spected by both Natives and Europeans. The annual Steeplechase meeting of the United Hunt Club has been fixed for May 5, following the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn meeting. The club has asked Mr H. M. Lyon, the indefatigable secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, to act as secretary, and has appointed the following officers in connection with the meeting :— Presidents, Dr Newman and Mr H. D. Bell, M.H.R.'s; judge, Mr A. E. G.Rhodes; handicapper, Mr J. E. Henry ; clerk of the scales, Mr G. Dyer ; timekeeper, Mr N. Grace ; stewardsMessrs Crawford, Cooper, Wylie, Cuningham, Cox, Riddiford, O'Rorke, Skerrett, Caldwell, Myers, Mills, Maddox, Lucena, Drs Cahill and Gillon. The appointment of a starter has been deferred.

The stallion Armament, by Musket— Sissie, got entangled in a barb wire fence at Mahoetahi (Taranaki) on Friday night, and bled to death from injuries received. The Manawatu Racing Club has received excellent nominations for its Autumn meeting, no less than 235 entries being received for 12 events. Nominations have been received from Canterbury, Aucklaud. Ilawke's Bay, Wairarapa, and Wellington. The club has decided to ask the authorities to send two detectives from Wellington on race day to prevent the walking totaliaator nuisance.
