AUCKLAND TOPICS.

By Taihoa.

Auckland, February 13,

The question of altering the dates of the Auckland Racing Club Autumn meeting came before the committee of that body for consideration at its monthly meeting during the present week, when after a full review of the matter it was deemed best not to disturb the dates as at present fixed. This is a matter where our club is trying to pull in with the southern clubs.

Let my southern readers beware of Eve or St. Katherine for Taranaki. Major George states that he likes to see his horsls run ; hence Pegasus's absence from Otago.

Impulse, who is still under the charge of G. Cutts, is a pretty regular attendant at Ellerslie. The St. Leger gelding looks nice and mellow, and in the event of his being fairly treated in the Wanganui Cup his party_ may be tempted to give him a chance of improving on his last year's performance in that race, when he was beaten by St. Katherine.

By the s.s. Gairloch, which left Manukau on Thursday last for New Plymouth, the following horses were taken to fulfil their engagements at the Egmontand Taranaki meetings :— Lottie, Retaliation, Coalscuttle, Royal Rose, and St. Clements.

Adam Byers leaves for New Plymouth next week with ' Ben Godfrey, and after the conclusion of the Taranaki meeting it is quite on the cards that the son of St. Leger may be taken to Christchurch with a view to the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes.

The yearling colt by Hotchkiss from Satanella has joined the string under the charge of F. Stenning at Kohimarama. The youngster in question has been named Linstock. Stenning is responsible for the good form recently shown by the two-year-sld Lady Moth, whom he has Bent to the post on each occasion in capital condition. The rumour is again current that the Napier sportsman, Mr W. Douglas, intends sending a team of jumpers to Australia in the winter, with a view to the V.R.C. Grand National meeting. Couranto, Mutiny, and Waterbury are spoken of as the likely ones of the team, and they may be accompanied by Chris and Werekio, who are spoken of as a likely pair to earn distinction over the small sticks at an early date. Trainers are now busy with their yearlings. A. Byers this week had St. Regal (by St. Leger from Friendship), the Brigadier — Katipo colt, and the Castor — Moilena filly in town in order to give them a sight of the crowd, when the trio showed themselves to be quite at home in the busy thoroughfare.

In conversation with Mr George Cutts he spoke of the harsh treatment hj3 had received in Australia. Royal Rose<eoes to the West Coast under the wing of James Kean.

AU Auckland cricketers are delighted at Otago making sucb a fine stand against New South Wales. In my days, Spring, Fulton, Turton, and M'Farlane were amongst the ranks. Where are they now ?
