At the annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company a dividend at the rate of 11 par cent, per annum was declared. The chairman said that he had no reason to fear competition by the electric light, as it had been proved by the experience of older countries that the two systems could run side by side.

The Akaroa Mail, referring to the yield of cocksfoot, says :—": — " In some places there ia such an overgrowth of fog that the stock will be turned into the paddocks. Every day more fully proves the very short supply, and we do not believe that more than two-thirds of last year's crop, if so much, will be harvested. Of course a good deal of the seed is dark, but we do not think any of the seed has been sufficiently wetted to have lost 1 per cent, of its germinating power, and a good deal, even from near the top, looks a fairly bright sample. We have seen some very plump seed that we are sure would weigh well. There is no doubt that there is so much fog that the bulk of the crop will have to be cleaned in the town machines that can shell the fog, and we expect a large proportion will be sent away after having been put through the riddle. There is no clear idea of prices yet, but a few daya will doubtless show the run of the market. With short supplies and probable active demand, we think holders can reckon on fairly remunerative rates." The New Zealand Land Association have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated February 5 : — "Frozen Meat : Mutton market unchanged. Lamb market higher. Prime NewZealaad lambs are worth, per carcase, sid per lb."
