WAITAHUNA.

January 23.— The temperance picnic held on Thursday, ISth inst., under the auspices of the Blue Ribbon and Good Templar Societies was an unqualified success. The day was extremely hot, and the shade of the beautiful treeß in the, manse grounds, where the picnic was held, was very grateful. Quite 3 concourse of people assembled as the heat of the day gave way to the delightfully cool evening. The usual games were played, and the usual tea under difficulties partaken of, and to judge by the bright, animated faces one would think, even when a cup of tea accidently arrived at the wrong destination, leaving marks of rapid progress on dainty muslin and spotless gowns, that it was part of the programme, without which the picnic would lack its chief element, the delightful scramble for fun. At quite a late hour in tho evening the tired picnickers wended their way homewards, the usual meeting of the Good Templarß lapsing on account of the paucity of attendance, business, as frequently happens, giving way to pleasure. The Good Templar lodge i& still making steady progress. A Harmony Committee, from which great things are expected, has been appointed, and so far it has been the means of enhancing the interest in the lodge. It is a matter for deep and general regret that Mr Robert Yorke has been obliged through absence from home to resign his position of L.D. Mr Yorke made a very efficient and a capable officer. His place will not be easily filled, and as I have said, it is generally regretted that the necessity should have arisen. Weather — The weather is extremely hot.
