RAE'S JUNCTION.
December 12.— We are having some very wet weather here just now, accompanied by a good deal of wind. This is keeping the crops back considerably ; indeed, some of them are now beyond recovery, as it is giving the sorrel a chance of getting the better of the growing crop— and is keeping the farmer from getting on to the land to work it for the turnip crop. Telephonic— The telephone line has been extended from Beaumont to Island Block, with a station at the hotel here.
Mining.— The Island Block has been short of water, and has consequently had to discharge some of the hands. The fact of some of the works at the water race, &c., being finished increased the nunVber. Although it has been wet there has not been much snow falling on the ranges, whence the supply of water comes to the race. — Kirkpatrick has not finished with his extended water race, as there is a good deal of rock, and he has to do a considerable quantity of blasting.
