THE PACIFIC CABLE.
A despatch from Montrunl jjlvcm m\ mt<>r\iow with Mr C. R. Hosmior, flwwvnl t»uu\«|j«H- of the Canadian Pacific nulwuy, i» whtoh tve tmM i "We are naturally intoj)m>ly intinoatml 1« Mw agitation prevailing iv lSugiamt *u»l <ho Avvs-
tralian colonies over the proposed Pacific cable. We contend that a Canadian-Pacific telegraph with an Atlantic cable connection can be made to form the cheapest and quickest route for telegraphic communication between Great Britain and Australasia, and we believe the growing commerce of the Pacific Ocean demands that this cable be laid, and we are satisfied it will be by someone within a very short time. A cheaper and quicker telegraphic communication would prove in Canada as well as elsewhere one of the most important factors in diverting a large share of the Australian commerce via Canada and the United States and Great Britain."
