The first case under the new Licensing Act ( same before the bench to-day, when the licensee ( >f the Albion Hotel was charged with supplying 1 jquor to a child under 13. Counsel said there ' yas a general impression in the trade that the : icfc did not come into force till March. Mr Martin, R.M., said he would nob enter up a t iortviction, bufc defendant must pay costs, and tbe trade could take this as a warning.
The new lighthouse on Stephens Island will be < >pened in the- middle of January.
