A SWIMMING EXHIBITION.
Mr E. Cavill, the champion swimmer of Australia, gave a private exhibition of hia skill at the St. Clair Baths on Tuesday aftercoon Amongst those present were Drs Burns, Batchelor, and Roberts, Messrs Fish, Hancock (mayor of Caversham), Greenslnde, and DawBon. Cavill proved himself to be a very expert Bwimmer, and is evidenbly thoroughly ab home in the waber. Some of his feabs were very clever indeed, and included answering questions while under the water — bhe answers being wribten on a slate — swimming wibh hands aud fceb tied, speed swimming, and quite a number of other feata. From the exhibition on Tuesday ib would almost eeem as if Cavill were as much at home under water as on land. He allowed himself t<j sink gradually while reading a took, rr.ruair.ing uuder water some bime. He also while under waber gave a number of sbatuesque poses. A 50yds handicap match was got off vwbb C.±vill at scratch, Dr Roberts comiog in first, with Talbob second, and Cavill close up. Iv view of the tournament at St. Clair on Saturday, a pracbice mabch ab polo will take place on Friday afternoon, in which some 25 are expected to bake parb.
