HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the High Schools Board of Governors, held on Thursday, was attended by the Rev. A. R. Fitchett (in the chair), the Hon. W. H. Reynolds, Mr G. G. Russell, and Mr C. Haynes. The Rev. Dr Stuart senfc an apology. A report was received from the committee appointed to consider the 30 applications for the of manager at the rectory. The committee reported that the choice lay between Messrs T. S. Baker, W. H. Buckland, and James D unbar, and of the three they recommended Mr Baker. — The board did not see. their way to accept the recommendation, and conferred the appointment on Mr D unbar. | The same committee submitted recommendations as to repairs at the rectory, and it was resolved thafc the work be undertaken during the recess under the supervision of Mr Somerville. The secretary was instructed to advertise for applications from persons qualified to act an assistant to the matron in succession to Miss Weldon, applications to be in before next j meeting. The board voted £6 towards repairing the tennis courts at the girls' school. Mr Thomas Jones was granted permission to transfer his interest in grazing right over sections 7, 8, 31, 32, 33, block IX, Arden, to Mr Wm. Watson. Mr P. Kinney, lessee of run 205p, applied for a continuance of the reduction in rent. — The board regretted they could not see their way to comply. The resignation of Mr T. D. Fearce as assistant master was received with regret, and the secretary was instructed to thank him for his services. The question of filling the vacancy was deferred. Accounts amounting to £590 11s 9d were passed. The board voted thanks to Mr O. Haynes for his zealous services on the board during his term of office ad mayor.

A little boy, the son of Mr Herbert, of the Bank of New South Wales at Temuka, had his thigh broken and was badly bruised while playiug with a half-ton roller when returning home from school.
