SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD,
A special meeting of the board wan held at 10.30 a. iri. on Tuesday, December 5. There were present . Messr3 C. Cowan (in the chair), A. Kinross, and J. M'lntyfe. The head office intimated the appointment of commissioners to classify Runs Nos. 153, 143 a, 359, and 418. Consideration of the application of G. J. Fox for 200 acre 3on Run 27, Mokoreta, was postponed. It was decided to recommend the Government to reduce the valuation on section 791 to £30 and to have it readvertised. John Thornley applied for permission to erect a fence from corner of section 16, block 11, Obara district, to the sandhills.— Referred to ' county council for their concurrence* the board seeing no objection to the granting of the fequf sfo J. B. BisstiaD, in accordance with a resolution of the board, appeared to explain his action iv removing a fence from Cfo,wn section in block V, Centre Hill district. He said he was unaware of the illegality of his action. — Mr Basstian was ordered to re-erect the fenco or pay the value of the one removed. A number of residents of the district petitioned for a sheep-dip site at Forest Hill. — To be informed that; the reserve is under the control of the county council. James Moffibh, of Waikaia, was given three additional months in which to pay arrears due on his land. Mr J. Macalister wrote on behalf of the former licensee objecting to the valuation pMced on the improvements on section 168, Wairio district. — To be informed that the land was selected, and that they could not alter the amount of valuation. The Ranger reported, stating that he saw no objection to section 14, block IX, Chatfcon district; being leased for agricultural purposes. — Steps to be taken to proclaim the land open under section 121 of the act of 1892. He also intimated having inspected the improvements dn.. sections 75 and 7G, block XX, Invercargill Hundred, which he valued at £22 6s, and those on section Bs, block VII, Invercargill Hundred, which he estimated at £1 10s. David Mackintosh, Murdoch Mackintosh, and Isabella M. Mackintosh, lessees of Runs Nos. 15 and 16, Taringatura district, in compliance with their request, ,were given permission to reside on Run No. 17, in the occupation of Donald Mackintosh, it being the most convenient position from which to work their lands, providing the necessary improvements are effected on each run. The New Zealand Pine Company were granted a right-of-way through sections 71 to 75, Oraka township, the sections to be submitted at first sale. The company was also granted 15 miro trees on sections 1 to 16, Oraka township. Edward Sheenan was granted complete purchase of section 289, Taringatura district. "W. Porter was given permission to capitalise payments on section 44, block XVlll,lnvercargill Hundred, subject to necessary improvements having been effected. The following applications were granted :—: — Small grazing run : Maud Caroline Beer, No. 30, section 128, Takatimo district. For cash : Hugh Ward, section 84, block XXII, Invercargill Hundred ; J. Carroll, sections 9 and 10, block XIII, Wallacetown township ; Alexander Smith, section 9, block V, Centre Hill ; William Anderson, section 17a, block XXI, Invercargill Hundred. Occupation with right of purchase : Amy E. Ward, section 1, block XIV, Mokoreta ; Robert W. Ross, section 306, Forest Hill ; Ewen Macgregor, sections 15 and 16, block 11, Wendonside. Leases in perpetuity : Q. B. Meagher, section 24, block IV, Longwood; Ezra Eldred, sections 110 and 111, block XX, Invercargill Hundred ; Stephen O'Brien, section 171, Wairio ; James O'Brien, sectionl6B, Wairio; Andrew Christie, jun., section 12, block XIV, Oteramika Hundred ; George Conley, section 580, Hokonui ; William C. Corran, section 8, block XIV, Oteramika Hundred ; Richard Fleming, section 7, block V, Centre Hill; John Davies Fyfe, section 3, block IV, Waikawa ; John Fleming, sections 5, 6, and 7, block XIV, Centre Hill ; Jessie Coster, section 12, block IV, Waikawa; Alexander Rhind, section 76, block VIII, Invercargill Hundred ; D. H. Henderson, section 774, Hokonui ; Henry Wall, section 74, block VIII, Invercargill Hundred. Several miners petitioned protesting against block V, Lindhurst Hundred, being submitted to sale owing to the auriferous nature of the land. — It was decided to inform petitioners that the land has been withdrawn from sale, and also to ask them to pay their fees, otherwise they would be regarded as trespassers. Mr J. J. Wesney appeared on behalf of a tfumbcr oE residents of the locality, protesting against land being set aside for a sheep-dip site on the North road, Winton. — The matter was held over.
