SELECTION OF SMALL GRAZING RUNS. «

A number of small grazing runs in the Otago district were opened for selection to intending settlers at the Dunedin Land Office on ' Monday, no less than 291 applications being received for the land. The leases of 45 runs, containing an area of about 54,000 acres, were originally announced as open for ssleotion, but eight subdivisions of run 225, Highfield, were withdrawn, leaving 37 runs, having an area of about 42,000 acres, to be disposed of. Out of this number 28 lots were applied for, and competition in most oases was very keen, over 60 applications being received for two separate vans. The total area of land applied for wag

about 27,500 acres, most of which is contiguous !to the Otago Central railway. The operation of balloting for the land took place yesterday, Mr F. A.
