INVERCARGILL STOCK SALES.
Invebcakgiia, July 25. There was a good supply of nearly every description of stock in the Invercargill saleyards to-day, and late values were well sustained. Recent developments of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company's affairs seem to have oansed little or no inconvenience to farmers and graziers in these parts nor had any disturbing effects upon our markets. Fat cattle of primest quality realised fully 25s per 1001b, while inferior and medium sold at 18s to 225. In store cattle the demand was not so brisk, but owners preferred to hold rather than reduce reserves. Milk cows near calving were in good demand. The fat sheep pens were well filled. Wethers and maiden ewes of ordinary class sold from 13s to 16s 6d, and a pen or two of extra prime wethers at 21s 6d. Hoggets of fanaverage quality sold at 10s ; other lines, a little more or less according to quality. The Ocean Beach Freezing Works have closed down until the 4th of August for the usual overhaul of plant and machinery. Plenty of sheep are ready for freezing as soon as operations again commence, sufficient to keep the works steadily going until the shearing season/ provided shipping facilities do not interfere.
