A considerable number of large trout are to be seen in the Water of Leith at present, and as this is the spawning season they are easily captured. Several instances of poachipgare known to have taken place recently, and it is probable proceedings will be taken. It is hoped that all fishermen will make it a point of protecting these fish, as unless they do so just now the chances of having any sport at the proper season will j>e greatly reduced. The Field of May 27 says :— " A number of fish which were captured, labelled, and numbered at the instance of the Scientific Dapartment of the Fishery Board have been recaptured in the vicinity of Anstruther Bay on the East Coast. One, a codling, caught last week, which had been labelled a little over six months, had migrated only one mile and a-half from where it had been set down, but it had added 2£in to its length. Another caught some time ago was labelled for three months, and had migrated about 15 miles, and grown lin longer."

The annual meeting of the Auckland Bowling Club was held on Monday night, when there was alarge attendance. The balance in hand is £36 Mr J. Hardie was elected president. A large number of trophies and prices were presented for competition next year. In reply to a letter of the oouncil of the association asking the opinion of the Auckland Club as to the place of meeting for next tournament, a resolution was carried in favour of Auckland, owing to the last tournament being declared off through bad weather,
