DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS.
Wbkkly Rbpokt. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows: — The feature of our sale to day was the number of first-class Clydesdale horses offered for sale. These were mostly from the farms of Messrs R. Muir, P. and D. Robertson, William Grant (Taieri), and W. S. Mosley (Inch-Clutha), and were, taking them all round, a really good lot. The demand was active and the prices realised satisfactory. Buyers were present from the south (for which the best of the horses were bought) and also from the north. In addition to these consignments we offered a large number of others, ranging from medium to inferior, on account of various vendors, and these also sold readily at fair prices. Inferior hacks and harness horses met with a poor demand, bus those showing Borne strength of bone were more saleable. On Saturday the 13th inst. we shall offer a shipment of superior heavy draught mares and geldings from Melbourne. These horses have been specially selected by Mr Trestrail for this market, and we feel confident will be found to reflect credit on the well-known good judgment of the shipper. We quote:— For first-class draughts (extra heavy), £25 to £30; good ordinary draughts (young), £18 to £22; medium draughts, £12 to £16: aged draughts, £6 to £10; good hacks and harness horses, £12 to £16; medium hacks and harness horses, £7 to £9 ; light and inferior hacks and harness horses, £2 10s to £5.
