AN ARBOR DAY VISION.
In olden days when Rosalind . Sat 'neath the beech trees' shade and dream'd, While thro* their downy-satin leaves ■' . • ,-. The, yellow, sunshine dane'd and stream'd ; Arid, on the silver, boles were hung, (Soft-fiutt'nng in the summer breeze), The verses by Orlando sung Unto the list'ning forest trees ; Then was the reig_n of old romance • In Arden woods, in lovely-France. In olden days, when Oberon His revels held on moonlight nights. And all the woodland ways o'er teem'd With airy, tiny, glist'ring sprites ; When on the moss Titan ia , Unseen, slept soft with folded wings, In an enchanted atmosphere, < Peopled with quaint imaginings ; What fairy tales might have been told By each great forest monarch old. Some day, our barren lulls may boast A mantZe rich of forest trees, And oak, and ash, and elm, and beech May whispor in tho summer breeze ; Then will a Rosalind appear , To fancy's eye, amid the glades, And poets dainty lays will sing Of elves .within those woodland shades ; And old-world visions will arise To bloom anew 'neath Austral skies. — Wych Elm. Inch Valley, August 1892.
