In the bagging market there has not been much business done during the week. Holders of cornsacks, however, are firm in their quotation of 6s per dozen for 44's. In woolpacks there is no busi-
ness passing. The Hew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cables from their London office : Dated May 3 :— " Wheat: Market steady. There is. little demand ; c.i.f. quotations unchanged. Spot quotations have declined 6d per 4961b since last report." Dated May 4 6:— "Tallow 1 : There is a rather better demand; quotations unchanged. Frozen Meat : Beef market firmer : New Zealand forequarters are •worth 3id per lb ; hindquarters, 4Jd perlb ; other quotations unchanged since last telegram. New Zealand Hemp : Market very weak : medium is is worth XSj) per ton." Dated May 10:— " Wheat : \ 'Improved Continental demand for New Zealana .wheat, c.i.f., off coast ; otherwise market deposed. New Zealand wheat, f.a.q., is ■worth, c.i.f.,i;to arrive, 135s per 4801b (nominal value). Spptf quotations have declined 6d per 4961b since last report." The National Mortgage and Agency Company are in receipt of the following cable advice from their London office:— "Oats: The market is decidedly weaker, with a downward tendency." Messrs John. M'Nairn and Co., of Glasgow, in their monthly-cable of Hotne markets, dated 4th May, to the .Woodlands Dairy Factory Company, report: ?' Cheese market has a downward tendency.'.' " .-'.'. . Messrs .A. L4rie and Co, report : — We held an extensive clearing sale yesterday on the premises, George street, -in connection with J. J. Pryor's estate. The pale was one which evidently created considerable interest. There was a crowded attendance*, and bidding throughout was spirited, ' every lot beingjcleared at excellent prices under close competition. The George street leasehold, which was first offered, was secured by Mr Archibald Miller, of .Miller, Dow, and Co., at L7BO ;,the firm intend .to resume their business there immediately. The farm at Tomahawk was secured by" Mr R. Hudson(as agcnt)for L 855 .An adjournment •was then made to O'Dounell Bros.' yards, where the horses arid carts were offered, and, without exception, every lot realised very full values. The stock-in-trade was then put up, and compete tion for every line being very keen capital prices were secured. The whole sale totalled L 1834 gross, making a total of L 2184 realised for the whole estate, which must be most satisfactory to Ihe creditprs, \Vho will receive an unusually substantial dividend.
