MILTON.
• May 10.— Now that the election is a thing of the past, I fancy not a few of the electors of Bruce — at least those in Milton— are beginning to wonder" what there was to grow so enthusiastic over. That the usual phlegmatic inhabitants of drowsy •Milton could ever be roused into such a state of excitement as to actually carry a man shoulder high " through their streets seems incredible. The scene Qh the evening of election day reminded one of the oity in Jules Verne's book, " Dr Ox's Experiment." The people seemed nearly mad— and they were all sober, too. I think that the novelty of their position intoxicated the majority of the electors. JSitherto the outside world has quietly ignored '•Bruce, and the fact that the whole colony was watching their movements during the election so tickled their sense of importance that they lost their heads altogether. Never has such a time bgen seen in Milton, and probably there never will be again. ' .Farming.— The farmers have returned to their work once more, and on all sides may be seen the busy plough turning over the stubble for the winter frost to pulverise. And none too soon, for already the frost has been hard, and at present it looks as if there were going to be a severe winter. ■- Bunny.— The frosty weather is favourable for trapping rabbits, and large quantities are being despatched daily to preserving works.
