ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. Oamaru writes that she is very much trouble with slugs in the house, and asks for a mean of destroying them. She has tried salt, pepper, and lime without effect. Lime is certainly the best preventive. I would suggest that you should keep it in a disinfectant tin, and after dark go over the parts they frequent and dust the lime on them. A better plan would be to find out their mode of ingress and stop them in that way. It will probably be by means of a rat or mouse hole in the vicinity of the chimney. When found, you could nil it with lime and block it upafterwards. White Ivy.— (l) The hair is a lovelyauburn. Dc not touch it. (2) Mrs Miller's cookery book ii to be obtained for one shilling, at-Leavltt House. (3) The best way to make your dress ia with a very plain skirt, and a plain longcoated bodice. Puzzled.— (l) I have no hesitation in recommending Shacklock's Orion range as the best procurable in Dunedin. It cannot fail to give you satisfaction, and you will find cooking quite a pleasure after having put up with such a. makeshift as a colonial oven so long. A 3ft Orion range is quite big enough to cook for a large family. It has tho advantage over tbt largor ones of consuming less coal. (2) Kerosene used for washing has the effect of keeping th« linon white, and so far as wearing out tha clothes is concerned it has a directly opposite effect, as little or no rubbing is required, and it is of course the rubbing and pulling which wear out clothes.
