Tassy (Derrett up) negotiated five furlongs at top speed. Launceston and Flinders were given a full speed six-furlong gallop, while The Captain followed over five furlongs at a good pace. Inez jumped off at the mile and a-quarter peg and came home at top accompanied by Calliope over the last five furlongs. A number of others did useful work. April 1. Friday is usually an off-morning at Riccarton, but to-day some useful work was witnessed. Dudu, Cruchfield, Euphrosyne, Yon Tempsky, and Reflection were merely given useful work, Dudu going twice round at a good pace. Vogengang, Captive, and Launceston were galloped at top in company ever six furlongs, Captive going very well, and as a three-year-old will be an excellent horse, though he may not show his best form during the present season. Flinders did half-pace; and Missile went half a mile' at a fast rate, and spall though she is, she wants a deal of beating over four furlongs. Crackshot (Derrett up) compassed a mile and . a - half at three - part speed. Clanranald and Merrie England did half-pace work, and . Kulnine covered a circuit at half speed. Cajolery was sent twice round, finishing up at a fair pace. May, Diadem, and Tassy were raced over six furlongs. Inez and Ilium were given a mile and a-quarter top-speed gallop. Tornado and Yon Tempsky went seven furlongs fast, the former going a round previously at half pace. Mrs Mullauey was given half-pace work. She is the only arrival at Riccarton so far.

April 2. A somewhat raw morning, and the plough was heavy and consequently slow, but some very good work was gone through, the grass and plough "both being in extensive use. Cutts commenced by sending Cruchfield a mile and ahalf at top, and Dudu followed by going the same distance similarly, i attended by Yon Tempsky-over the last mile. Euphrosyne was given a- five furlong fast gallop in company with Reflection. Flinders and Tassy were given a seven furlong top speed gallop, both going well; and Lumper and Wiuhman went once round at a good pace, and the latter is very evidently a useful two-year-old. Magpie, the gelding by Guy Fawkes, and Torch did a fast Bfice round after half-pace work ; and Erin-go-bragh and Lady Sockburn covered a mile and a-quarter at top. Crackshot (Billy Brown up) negotiated a mile and a-half, going a mile strongly and moving capitally. He is recovering very rapidly from his North Island accident. Cajolery travelled a mile and a-half, going the last mile at a fast rate. Merrie England was given a twice-round, traversing the last mile and a-half at a clinking pace, and Norton and Ahua covered a double at half and three-quarter pace, the old horse looking very fresh and bright on it. Diadem was given a mile and a-half top-speed gallop against the watch, and she is improving. Clanranald went twice round finishing over the last seven furlongs at top. Rocket and Mrs Mullaney negotiated a fast mile, Rocket covering another circuit, and coming home fast over seven furlongs. Inez and Ilium were raced over a mile and a-half on the grass, the pair getting over the journey in fair time. Wanganui galloped seven furlongs as fast as he could travel ; while Tom Field, who is getting all right again, rapidly trotted twice round.

April 4-. This (Monday) morning was cold and frosty, and a thick fog hung over the course during the early proceedings, ■ and prevented an accurate view of the distances covered by the horses. Dudu and Cruchfield each went a double at a moderate pace, and Mrs Mullaney — not a bad # mare — travelled the same distance at a good rate. Both Euphrosyne and Yon Tempsky travelled a circuit strongly, and Reflection went six furlongs fast, and afterwards cantered once round. Launceston and Captive in company were sent five furlongs at top, and Flinders, Crown Jewel, and Tassy were similarly galloped over a mile. Lumper was given work twice round, and Cornrose and Diely teria raced over a mile. Crackshot covered a mile and a-half, going the last mile at nearly top, and Torch, Magpie, and the horse by Guy Fawkes covered a round, going a mile fast. Lady Sockburn led Vogengang in a fullspeed six-furlong gallop. Clanranald and Cajolery negotiated seven furlongs at top, and both Norton and Ahua went twice round at half pace, while Ilium and Inez went a circuit, spurting home from the top turn. Rienzi went a mile and a-quarter strongly, as did also Erin-go-bragh. May and Diadem were sent twice round, finishing strong. Tom Field cantered twice round, as did also Silver Pine, and Ro3ket covered the same distance at half and three-ojuarter pace. The Reprisal filly and the Adulation colt were cantered twice round on the tan, and Missile galloped five furlongs at top, as did also Calliope. The July gelding went once round at a good pace, while Ganger, Lake SLell, and the Tell Tale filly cantered. Tornado jumped, and Ben Trovato was given a short gallop, while Merrie Boy was ridden twice round the plough steadily.

April 6. This morning Cruchfield, Euphrosyne, and Reflection cantered. Dudu's leg has given way, and she has been turned out and will not run at the Autumn meeting. The Adulation colt and the Bribery filly went five furlongs at top and afterwards cantered. Launceston and Captivcjvent" twice round and spurted. Both Crown . Jewel'- and - Flinders did steady work over two circuits, and Merrie England covered a " double," going a mile and a-half strongly. Clanranald and Kulnine were raced over six furlongs, and Lady Sockburn brought Vogengang % home at-,. top over five furlongs. Both Norton and Ahua did half and three-quarter pace work twice round, and Inez was galloped steadily over a mile and a-quarter. Ilium covered two miles and a-half at; a fair pace, and Tom Field was given half arc! tbreequarter pace work over the same distance. Diadem went'btcadily over two circuits, and tho mare by Guy Fawkes travelled a mile fast. I

believe she is a sister to Freeman. Rienzi wad cantered, and Crackshot sent once round steadily, while Torch covered a mile at a strong rate. Tassy, Lady Sockburn, and Vogengang were raced over five furlongs and afterwards cantered a circuit, and Magpie and Rocket were jumped.
