Obituary. — We regret to announce th,e death of the wife of Mr. Lachlan Shaw, a gentleman well- known as one of the pioneers of Otago draughts, and president of the Dunedin Club. ■Much syjnpathy is felt for Mr Shaw in his bereavement, coming after long trouble. Kear's Reprint. — The first part of the -Reprint of Drummond's Second Edition was to be published at the end of February by the Messrs Kear, and will contain quite a new feature in works of this description, viz., a miniature diagram of the position at the head' of every variation. Mr Kear says that this improvement has been introduced at great expense, but he feels sure that it will be found agreatconvenience. Of this we have no doubt, and we hope it will help to increase the circulation of the work.

Leggatt in Oamaru. — Mr J. 'Loggutfc, from Christchurch, was in Oamaru lately, and met a few of the players there in a friendly boiit. He met Mr Boreham, and the firss game had not gone far when the Oamaru man found he ha<J a worthy foeman. By the ttjjddle of the game Mr B. was in difficulties, and after about an hqur's play he had to resign,- The\ second game was drawn; Third game, a " Cross," went to Mr Boreham. The same players met twice afterwards, making the total score Boreham 4, Leggatt 2, drawn 3. The talkad-of match is not likely to take -place. Mr Crook had a sitting with the visitor, resulting in one win to Mr Leggatt and' two draws, although Mr Crook held a winning position in two games.
